The Association of Oregon Counties (AOC) was first organized in 1906 by a group of county judges interested in providing a forum for information sharing and consensus development. For some 30 years the original organization functioned primarily for the purpose of holding an annual meeting. Conference planning and other activities of the Association were passed on annually to individual counties with the election of each new president.

Congressman Walden represents the Second Congressional District of Oregon, which includes the 20 counties of southern, central and eastern Oregon. At more than 70,000 square miles, it is geographically larger than most states. It is home to breathtaking mountains, clean rivers, rich farmland and open range. It is a rural district where many people make their living off the land, and where many communities have not yet seen the economic boom experienced in other parts of our country.

On January 6, 1999 I was sworn in to represent Oregon's First Congressional District which reaches from the Willamette River in downtown Portland to the shores of the Pacific Ocean in Astoria. The First Congressional District includes all of Washington, Clatsop, Columbia, and Yamhill Counties, as well as parts of Multnomah and Clackamas Counties
